Joint innovation procurement for sustainable road maintenance

In 2023, the municipalities of Losser and Enschede launched an eight-year joint public procurement of innovation for sustainable road maintenance under the Wegverleggers initiative. The programme-based approach focused on long-term environmental, climate, and circularity objectives, integrating innovative solutions such as low-temperature asphalt, recycled materials, and drone-assisted planning. By collaborating closely with the market and internal stakeholders, the municipalities achieved early reductions in CO₂ emissions and environmental impact while streamlining project preparation.
