Construction and temporary occupation of a circular hub and Makerspace
The Makerspace project in Leuven transforms two historic buildings in the city’s harbour area into a temporary circular hub for creative and educational activities. The initiative integrates circular construction principles, avoiding virgin materials, promoting flexible design, and ensuring high-quality reuse after temporary occupation. The project also serves as a pilot for circular procurement and organisational change, bringing together city teams, architects, and stakeholders to explore opportunities for upscaling circular construction. Today, 44 organisations participate in the Makerspace, creating a lively hub that inspires citizens, professionals, and other municipalities to adopt circular practices in construction and temporary occupation.
